Make an Offering

A photograph, a recording, a piece of writing. Whatever you brought with you.

What is this?

Sanctuary Cell Division is a cell: one small machine that holds an archive and answers questions about it. It sits in this room. Nothing it holds is in a cloud, and nothing you ask it leaves the building.

A cell begins empty. It knows only what people put into it — so it is made of whatever this room decides to hand over. Ask it something nobody has offered anything about and it will tell you it does not know, which is the honest answer and the one most machines will not give you.

Cells divide. What gathers here can be carried to another room, another machine, another set of people who need it — copied whole, moved by hand, kept alive without asking anyone's permission. That is the solidarity part. An archive built so that losing any one machine loses nothing.

So an offering is not a donation to us. It is the material the thing is made of.

What happens to it. What you give remains with the STWST archive after the show ends.

We remove location data from photographs by redrawing them, and from sound and video by rewriting the file. That is not anonymity. We cannot remove what is in a picture — a face, a street, a room, a name in your writing. Look at what you are giving before you give it.

This page is hosted on a machine we do not own. Its provider records the network address of everyone who loads it, and we cannot switch that off. If that matters to you, that is a good reason to choose sealed, or to give nothing.
